A reprint of the original book was made in 1987, recognising the 150th year since the invention of Sir Isaac Pitman's phonography.
At the same time, discussions began regarding the possibility of updating the book to the present time, as its contents were nearly forty years out of date.
The Pitman Reunion Committee began the task by contacting as many descendants as they could locate. By the time of the third reunion in 1988 many responses to these requests had been received, and there remained the task of collating and editing this new information, and trying to fill the gaps that remained.
In addition to substantially extending the original material, the descendants of several other Pitman immigrants, not directly connected to the 'Branch' of the first book, were included.
The finished book was launched at the November 1990 Pitman Reunion, with over 300 people present to share the experience.
These books are no longer available in print, as all 1200 copies were sold by 2010, but can be purchased in electronic form on the 20th Anniversary DVD. Supplements which update most of the family trees are also available on the DVD and via this website.

Pitman Families in Australia 1838-1990 is an updated and extended version of the family history first published in 1954 as The Australians of a Branch of the Pitman Family, Pitman Press (no longer in print).
The 1954 publication was the outcome of a visit to Australia from England in 1949 by the Head of the Pitman Publishing Company, interested in finding out what had happened to the Pitman families who migrated to Australia in 1838, 1840 and 1851.
Miss Haidee Pitman was enlisted and her research contributed significantly to the final publication.
In 1984 and 1986, two Pitman Family Reunions attracted large numbers, and generated a renewed interest in the family book.
NOW AVAILABLE ONLY
