In late 2022, the Pitman Reunion Committee was invited to join the Pitman/Pittman DNA Project being run through FamilyTreeDNA.
This project involves Pitman/Pittman families primarily in the US and Canada, but also in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. These participants are looking for DNA clues to their ancestors in the UK.
The Project commenced in 2004 and there are now over 400 participants.
Details of the project can be viewed at www.familytreedna.com/groups/pittman-dna.
This is an opportunity to help other Pitman families discover their connections, and perhaps, just perhaps, the Project may identify that some of the unconnected branches in Australia join up in ways we haven’t yet discovered.
Involvement
A number of participants have been identified for the project, representing the following family lines:
- Benjamin Pitman and Harriet Lucas
(and therefore all related lines) - Albert Pitman and Sarah Clark
- Henry Pitman and Elizabeth Knight
- William Pitman and Sarah Gooding (in progress)
- Hugh Pitman and Mary Ann Edmonds (tbc)
- George Pitman and Clara Hamilton/Henry Barnes Pitman
- Joseph Pitman and Catherine Miller Lang
Other Pitman families are welcome to participate. Please contact us if interested and you will be connected to the Project team.
Work is currently in progress to obtain Y-37 DNA tests and analyse the results. Updates will be posted to this page as they become available.
