What about the living people?

For privacy reasons, only deceased people can appear publicly in the FamilySearch tree.

The Reunion Committee is still keeping track of living family members as the information becomes available, so please keep us informed of any updates.

Why does FamilySearch allow some living people to be created but not let others see them?

Living people may be needed to make a connection between you and the rest of the tree.

You need to be able to see where you fit in the tree. If your parents or grandparents are alive there needs to be a living person created for them in order to make the connection.

However, for privacy reasons, these living people are private to your personal FamilySearch account. You can’t see living people created by others, and they can’t see yours.

This means that if you and your living siblings added each other, there would be multiple copies of these records, so this is best avoided.

Why can’t I share living people with my close family?

FamilySearch has recently introduced Family Group Trees as a way to share information about living people with close family members.

The Pitman Reunion Committee has been monitoring this development with the view to seeing whether it will help with sharing of more detailed family trees across the wider family.

At this stage no decision has been reached.
