In 2017 the Pitman Reunion Committee decided to focus on updating online family trees, with the aim of making the trees more readily available, and to be more collaborative in keeping them up to date.
After considering many options, FamilySearch was chosen as the tree that would be updated with everything the Committee knew about Pitmans in Australia.
For privacy reasons, only deceased people can appear publicly in this tree, any living people are hidden from public view.
One Tree
There are no ‘my trees’ or ‘your trees’ in FamilySearch. There is just one tree to which everyone can contribute.
From 2018 to 2020 the Reunion Committee focussed on adding everything they knew into the FamilySearch tree. Branches needed to be linked together and many details checked and added.
Once the basic birth, death and marriage details were completed, the Committee went on to ensure that all the photos and stories published in Pitman Families in Australia:1838-1990 were also included.
As details were updated, it became apparent that a number of other Pitman descendants are already keeping their family’s details up to date in FamilySearch. Hopefully more will now join them.
